Summer brief intro & Initial thoughts

Summer brief intro & Initial thoughts.

Upon Analyzing the brief I understand that the best route to go to create a large body of work would be to base the subject matter around something that Interests me. The subject as a whole needs to have sufficient areas for me to cover and branch off from to individualize and expand and focus on one or a number of specific areas under the subject areas umbrella.

When it comes to researching the subject matter my methods of gathering research will be photographs, opinions and quotes gathered from people relevant to the subject area, drawings and independent research into contextual aspects of the subject. I will try to avoid Secondary research methods at all times gathering all research first hand from asking questions and taking notes of my interpolations of the subject from video source and other references.

Initial thoughts

Sneakers & Hats.
I began thinking of base points to began gathering research for, here are the first ideas I had and the pros and cons of these ideas that will help me decide weather to take them forward.Trainer/Sneakers & Hat collection. I have a vast range of hats and trainers and this could provide quite an interesting research point to begin from giving me opportunity to look into; Trainer Culture as a branch off from the current trend of street fashion.

Trainers can be seen as a collectors item to some people with some trainers fetching price tags into thousands of pounds. I can look into the design influences behind certain sneakers, consider the intended use, there conceptual influences, are they influenced by people within the music industry to help strengthen the consumerist need of the item?

There are lots of branches I could go off on within the subject to really produce a strong body of work. I could analyze colour combinations, patterns, materials used and why these elements have been used.

I could gather research from sneaker events collecting photographs of iconic trainer designs and gathering first hand opinions from other sneaker collectors through interviewing.

I could visit trainer stores and compare things like the interior design aspects and how it strengthens the product ranges they sell.

I could illustrate and draw iconic trainers to emulate even more there "collectors & unique" appeal.

I could look into different brands and there origins but this would mean more secondary research unless I contacted big agencies first hand but the chance of replies from companies like Adidas and Nike is unlikely.

Health & Fitness
Another interest I have is keeping fit. When I have the time I enjoy going to the gym, walking and maintaining a healthy diet and have passion for cooking.

This would be a difficult one to really gather anything interesting on though as what I would be gathering would just be a basic diary and recording of my day to day routine of cooking and exercise.

I could put together workout plans and diet plans but again this isn't really interesting so Its unlikely i will go forward with this idea.

Motorsport
An interest I have had from a very young age is anything to do with Motorsport, be it motorbikes or cars I have a huge passion for it all. So to produce something stemming from this would be a good idea for me as during the summer I will have a lot more times to pursue this passion of mine. And there are lots of areas I could narrow down too from it.

In terms of gathering research from the subject I decide on I will gather photographs, analyze design elements wherever possible (Colour, typography, 3D construction, engineering, print material), create drawings if relevant, collect facts, opinions and research information from relevant people.

If I go forward with this I will gather these elements from visiting car shows, car museums and race events over the summer compiling and collecting a large body of evidence to help me narrow down and focus on more specific subjects and begin creating a more considered body of work.
