I went to the world famous Silverstone Grand Prix circuit were the F1 is held to watch the BDC, the British Drift Championship. Supporting the event was a annual car show called TRAX and the final round of the Time Attack series.

The BDC (British Drift Championship) is a relatively new driving competition created by Mark Buckle & Paul McCallumn in 2007. In my opinion its still a long way to come from its origins and popularity it has in Japan that came around in the 1980s. 

The BDC has 120 Semi Pro and Pro drivers in there designated classes and has drivers compete from over UK, Europe and USA. All this happens at tracks across the country like the one I visited at Silverstone there are 5/6 events including the final event. 

Not alot is broadcast about the BDC judgment process, but by the looks of things its based on pairs of drivers running alongside each other in a nock out stage type of tournament with only one chance to make an impression on the judges by achieving dramatic and entertaining motorsport action for the audience. 

After each round the drivers are all awarded points for certain aspects of there drift like the angle, speed, and smoothness of the drift. 

Unlike the Time Attack were classes are based on the cars modification BDC is based ondriver skill.

Semi Pro are drivers who show a basic skill of drifting.

Pro class are people with a good/high standard of drifting.

Super Professional is for drivers of a very high standard and skill.

The classes can change through the competition, for example if a Semi Pro or Pro driver finishes in the top 4 of there class at the end of there round event they are allowed the chance to compete in the class above at the next event. If this process happens twice they are permanently promoted into this class.

I will go into more depth later on in the project on the specific history on drifting as I was just looking into the history of this particular event this time round. I will also look into the detailed aspects of drift cars, time attack cars and show cars.
